Through the Gorge to Hoodriver and Back around the Mountain

For our ten year wedding anniversary, my in laws agreed to have the kids over night.  Rob and I had been doing a lot of planning and were excited to go to Hood River.  We got going earlier in the day and headed up the Columbia River Gorge to Hood River.  Straight through would be 1 hour 40 minutes but we took 5 hours to do it.

We decided to take the old highway.  First stop was Vista House.  We were surprised that Vista House was actually open.  Neither one of us have ever been inside.

Beautiful view except for the haze.

We loved going along the old highway and seeing all of the falls.  We did not stop until we got back on the highway and headed to the Fish Hatchery.

The fish ladder had a ton of lamprey's.  Not the prettiest fish.

We also went to the locks but no boats were going through.

We of course had to stop at the Bridge of the Gods.

And finally we arrived in Hood River.  We had a much needed lunch at Full Sail.  Then it was time to check into the hotel.  We stayed at the Hood River Inn and had a beautiful view of the river and the bridge.  We had dinner at their restaurant.   It was a little pricy but the food was great and they gave hotel guests coupons.  Plus it was right on the water for a great view and nice breeze.

The next morning, we had the complimentary breakfast at the restuarant.
The view was gorgeous.

We headed into town because Rob wanted to get me some bagels.  We had been in town the night before and wondered a bit but not much.  There are many cute shops and a lot focused to sports.

Then we headed towards the mountain.  We were headed towards some of the Fruit Loop.

Our first stop was Cody Orchard's.  They were a wonderful family.  The owner apologized for not having a lot of fruit yet but their season is later in the summer.  We had a great conversation.  We learned that her daughter was selling shirts as a project to raise money for college.  Great idea!  I had to have one before that.  Plus I got some honey to use for school.

I should have taken more photos because their stand was adorable but I was so busy talking with them.

Next stop was to see lavender and to try to get bee photos for school, Hood River Lavender Farm.

We  wanted to go off the beaten path while going around the mountain and went down a tiny little road to the Pioneer Woman's Grave.

Final stop before heading to my inlaws was to go to Timberline Lodge.

It felt very odd to be in snow in July.

We had lunch down in the Blue Ox tavern in the basement.  It was much cooler in there.  Since the building was built by the WPO, they did not install air conditioning.
