This morning started in drizzly Cannon Beach. We hoped to get to the beach again but it was too wet. We stopped by a wonderful bakery, Waves of Grain Bakery, which was across from where we were staying, Inn at Cannon Beach. They had vegan chocolate cupcakes which Peter will try tomorrow. They had an assortment of vegan products which is wonderful for a little boy who can't have milk products. We were very sad to leave the Inn. It was very cozy and a great place to stay. We definitely will be staying there again and longer. Not enough Cannon Beach time to say the least.
So, off we went to Fort Clatsop, the settlement of Lewis and Clark. One of the members of the expedition was John Shields, which I am a descendant. We had a wonderful guide to talk to in the fort who had lots of information (and a daughter who was just home from going to Pacific University). He formerly was a teacher at the school where Kindergarten Cop was filmed in Astoria. His enthusiasm about history was wonderful!! From the knowledge that he had of John Shields, it was believed that he slept in this part of the fort:

Peter got cozy in the bed.

He even tried guard duty.

I loved all the details at the fort.

Then we headed to Fort Stevens which was used from the Civil War to WWII (as stated by Rob).
The kids had a great time running around.

After running around, Rob made PB and Honey sandwiches and we headed to Newport. It took quite awhile because of road construction but we got there in time for dinner. We went to the Rogue's Brewers by the Bay.

Next to the brewery, there was a dock where people were crabbing.

Of course the birds were jealous.

But the view was gorgeous!
